I have been playing around with the idea of starting a money-savings/deals type of blog for some time now. I'm a 26 year old graduate student, and therefore I am eternally impoverished. Then again, I'm also in twenties, like to travel, love concerts, and enjoy clothing and makeup more than my feminist masters program ever approved of. However, I'm also terrified of debt in a way such that (combined with some mild hoarding tendencies I have to fight) I often wonder if i was in the great depression in a previous life. I also wonder if I might have been a mod rocker, but that's not particularly relavent right now. What is relavent is that shamefully materialistic ways + large fear of debt + tiny income = no, not massive theft or illegal trade, but instead a very creative and thrifty individual. Thus, what you'll find here is not a happily married mother of 2.3 children who is really keen on sharing her newest diaper-deal or subtle invitations to become a member of a pyramid scheme selling scent warmers, kitchen utensils, or jewelry. No, while I'll admit that it's not cool to be thrifty as I am, shop in thrift stores - yes, there is something cool about the results of what I do, namely getting the things I want (though maybe debt would be more rock and roll). So, amongst other things, this blog will chronicle and disseminate ways to save money on things that those of us who have yet to throw in the towel on being young and having fun might actually want spend our sparse funds on (I lump them together because, let's be honest, 24 year-old investment bankers don't really care about saving $20 on a band's anthology on vinyl, both because they don't need to save the money and they wouldn't want something so "old" as records.) To start the ball rolling I'll keep it short and sweet, and it's something that even the soon-to-be investment bankers might appreciate. Over the past few years I have noticed that everyone, even digital media has come to incorporate themselves into New Year's sales. What this means is if there is an App that you've been eyeing, it's a good idea to go check it out now. There is a good chance it will be on sale. Even if you haven't been eyeing an App, go browse, you may find something on sale that will make your life complete. For instance, today I bought Save2pdf for half off, which allows you to print things even if you don't have Airprint (I am an Apple-lover, may as well get that out of the way), convert files to PDFs, and a host of other things, some of which sound useful, others I don't even undstand what they are saying. I also purchased Notability for $0.99, 80% off the normal price. It allows me to draw, type, insert pictures, and (most important to me) record audio. I'll admit these apps aren't particularly rock and roll, but, like I said, I'm also a Ph.D. student doing interviews for my thesis so the utilitarian is sometimes unavoidable. However, I'm sure there are still some fun apps on sale, too. At least I didn't tell you about several-hundred dollar LSAT prep app, the I'd have to pack it in with the first post.
